Your first cosmetic production brief.
Six decisions that make your first manufacturing conversation more useful.
Start with the product
Choose a product type and explain what you want it to do. A serum, cleanser or hand cream is a better starting point than a long ingredient wish list. If the category is still open, describe your customers and the gap you want to fill.
Define the destination
Tell us where you intend to sell. Product classification, claims, labeling and documentation need to be considered before the formula and packaging are finalized.
Set a workable range
Share your budget range, intended volume per unit and expected order quantity. Separate your manufacturing budget from regulatory work, international transport and local selling costs.
Bring useful references
A reference product can communicate texture, scent, packaging or positioning. Explain which characteristics matter rather than requesting an exact copy.
Agree on priorities
Decide which matters most: customization, timing, price or a smaller production run. Those priorities help compare feasible options.
A brief you can send
Include product category, target market, intended customer, preferred volume, quantity, budget range and launch timing. Unknown items are acceptable; mark them for discussion.
